State and Federal Tax Incentives
The state of Hawaii and the Federal government offer incredible financial incentives to encourage homeowners and businesses to switch to solar energy. These incentives dramatically lower the cost of a solar system and often make the purchase of a solar system less expensive than purchasing electricity from HECO.
State and Local Rebate Programs
The state of Hawaii offers a 35% tax credit–one of the largest tax incentives in the United States. If you do not expect to owe taxes this year, you can roll over your credit to the following year or choose to take a 24.5% rebate which comes in the form of a rebate check. In addition, HECO offers a number of programs to accommodate for solar energy projects.
Federal Tax Credits
The federal government allows you to deduct 30% of your solar system costs off your federal taxes through an investment tax credit (ITC).
